DOWCAL™ 100, DOWCAL™ 200 (mixing instructions in technical appendix) Efficient inhibited glycol-based heat transfer fluids
DOWCAL™ 100 heat transfer fluid is an ethylene glycol-based fluid that is particularly suitable for use in heating and cooling reactors in the pharmaceutical and specialty chemical industries, but also in heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems and geothermal heat pumps.
DOWCAL™ 200 heat transfer fluid is a propylene glycol-based fluid with low acute oral toxicity. This makes it particularly suitable for applications where toxicity is a concern. It is particularly suitable for heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems, ground source heat pumps and solar panels. It can also be used in secondary circuits of cooling systems, for example in ice rinks and similar leisure facilities.
Heating and cooling
Ground source heat pumps: A heat pump system extracts heat from the ground or surface water and provides economical heating and cooling for both residential and industrial buildings, reducing their energy consumption. DOWCAL™ fluids are circulated in pipes located underground or underwater, transporting thermal energy into or out of the building. To prevent the heat transfer fluid from freezing at sub-zero temperatures, DOWCAL™ 100 and DOWCAL™ 200 heat transfer fluids can be circulated in collectors/wells. DOWCAL™ fluids can be diluted up to 20% without compromising corrosion protection and pumpability.
Solar panels : In active solar thermal systems, for example flat plate collectors, solar energy heats a fluid that is circulated to areas requiring heating. For example, in residential buildings, heat exchangers can be used to indirectly heat domestic water and thus support the building's heating system. The optimal heat transfer fluid for such applications is
DOWCAL™ 200: prevents pipes from cracking in frost and/or eliminates the need to drain the system for the winter while maintaining excellent heat transfer properties. For aluminum tube collectors, DOWCAL™ 200 offers best-in-class corrosion protection and reduces collector maintenance costs.
Building services: Modern building services systems often use glycol-based heat transfer fluids to transfer heat and cooling. DOWCAL™ 100 and DOWCAL™ 200 provide these water-based building services systems with the necessary protection against freezing and corrosion, enabling efficient heat transfer for years with minimal maintenance.
Food industry: Cooling of liquid foods Due to its excellent heat transfer properties and food approval, DOWCAL™ N is commonly used in the beverage industry for cooling beer, wine, milk, juices and similar products. Fermentation cooling Breweries and winemakers use DOWCAL™ N to cool fermentation and wort tanks. The anti-corrosion properties of the liquid protect the piping. Carbonated beverage packaging DOWCAL™ N is suitable for the cost-effective cooling of carbonated beverages before bottling without loss of carbon dioxide. Such beverages include sparkling wines, champagne and beer. Deep freezing of packaged foods. In the food industry, airtight and water-tight packaged products can be frozen by immersing them in DOWCAL™ N. This method is popular because it is fast, economical and ensures uniform freezing. Cooling coil defrosting When moisture from the air condenses on the cooling coils of refrigeration and freezer rooms, frost formation can reduce the cooling efficiency. DOWCAL™ N liquid sprayed onto the coil surface prevents frost formation. Since DOWCAL™ N liquid is hygroscopic, it also absorbs condensed moisture. Anti-icing of conveyor rollers. Conveyor rollers and other moving parts in food freezing tunnels often accumulate frost. DOWCAL™ N liquid offers a great solution for this: when sprayed onto the rollers, it absorbs the moisture, lowers the freezing point of water, prevents frost formation and protects the rollers from corrosion.
